Haskap—also known as blue honeysuckle or honeyberry—was known to the ancient Japanese as “the fruit of longevity.” It originates from the island of Hokkaido—Japan’s northernmost island territory—and was introduced to Canada in the 1950s as an ornamental plant. By the late 1990s,
scientists had selectively bred hardy varieties with tasty fruits that
are now prized for their health benefits.

Haskap have their own unique taste, colour and texture. The taste is
described as sweet, tangy intense, like a mix of sweet blueberry, tangy raspberry and rich blackcurrant. They have a purple-blue skin and
crimson interior when ripe. Haskap berries have very tiny seeds and thin skin that melts in your mouth.

Deep purply-blue haskap berries are higher in antioxidants, particularly the most important anthocyanin C3G (2049 mg/litre) than wild blueberries (222 mg/litre). Just one serving (100g) of Haskap offers you more Vitamin C than an orange—plus double the Vitamin A! Haskap also has higher contents of calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium than blueberries, oranges, grapes and apples.

As one of the highest antioxidant foods grown in Canada, haskap appeals to health-conscious consumers who are interested in eating flavourful, beneficial foods.

Our haskap plants, like all haskap plants sold commercially in Canada, are not genetically modified. Selective breeding techniques have adapted varieties to produce commercial yields.

All Haskap Highland products are plant-based and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. We do not use any animal-derived ingredients in our products or during the manufacturing process.

Haskap Highland Juice, Dried and Powder products are gluten-free and dairy-free. They do not contain artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or sulfites.

Unopened Haskap Highland products are shelf-stable in a dark pantry or cupboard for up to a year. Once opened, the Juice Drink and Preserves should be refrigerated. Haskap Highland products are best quality when consumed within 30 days. The Juice Drink is most enjoyable when served
chilled.
